Clinical Effects of Tenoxicam in Rheumatoid arthritis and Degenerative osteoarthritis




Abstract
The authors have conducted a clinical study to evaluate the efficacy, tolerance and safety of the -wly developed tenoxicam in thirty-four cases of Rheumatoid arthritis and Degenerative osteoarthritis patients during 4 months from January to, April; 1988. .
Treatment for the patients was done with one tablet of tenoxicam (20mg) per oral once-a day =or 4 weeks. The evaluation of the patients was done at second and fourth week after initial administration of the drug
Results were as follows:
1. 34 patients, male patients were 4(11.8%) and female patients were 30(88.2%), participated in the trial. Predominent age group (17(50.0%)) was 40-59 years old.
2. According to the diagnosis of these patients, Rheumatoid arthritis were 22(64.7%) and Degenerative osteoarthritis were 12(35.3%).
3. There was marked improvement in global condition, pain on movement, pain at night and stiff ess. 4. 4 patients experienced side effects, 2 cases of heart burn, each 1 case of nausea and vomiting and iarrhea.
5. There was no significant difference between pre-and post-treatment laboratory values.
6. Conclusion: Tenoxicam was very effective for the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis and Degener tive. osteoarthritis. Side effects were few and generally mild.
